IELTS
IELTS refers to The International English Language Testing System. Started in 1989, it is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test not only for higher education but also for global migration.
In IELTS all aspect of English skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking - are accessed and the examinee as well as the examiner, employer, university official have a clear idea of the level of English as the test is developed by some of the world’s leading experts in language assessment.
IELTS has an excellent international reputation, and is accepted by over 9,000 organizations worldwide, including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies.
Cambridge English Language Assessment, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt Ltd. jointly managed IELTS. IELTS has two versions: Academic Version & General Training Version and the scores are valid for two years.
The Academic Version is for those who want to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher education. However the General Training Version is for those who want to gain work permit or immigration.
TOEFL
TOEFL has started in 1962 when in a national council of representatives from thirty government and private organizations decided to address the problem of ensuring English language proficiency for non-native speakers wishing to study at U.S. universities. Then TOEFL was introduced and the first TOEFL test was administered in 1964 by the Modern Language Association.
TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language - is a widely respected English-language test in the world. It is recognized by more than 9,000 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries. Although it was initially formed for US universities and colleges only; now the test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions around the world as the basis for measuring the English ability of the non- English speaking students.
ETS (Educational Testing Service), a private non-profit organization, is the official trademark of TOEFL and are responsible for designing and administering the tests and the scores are valid for two years.
